Celebrating 20 Years of SLT

Released: 18.12.14

The University of St Mark & St John is celebrating another historic milestone.

The forthcoming Annual Speech and Language Therapy student conference, set to be held on January 23, 2015, celebrates 20 years of Speech and Language provision at the University.

The packed agenda includes a key-note address from the CEO of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, Kamini Gadhok MBE, presentations and poster exhibitions from fourth year students as well as talks from lecturers Dr Sarah Griffiths, Scott Stack and Lynsey Parrott.

Themes for the student presentations include:

  • Using multimedia to design a consent form for people with aphasia;
  • The communication of climbing instructors when working with adults with learning disabilities – working towards a methodology for coaching reflection and the development of a specialised training programme;
  • Is there a role for a speech and language therapist within a mental health setting?

At the conference close University vice-chancellor, Professor Cara Aitchison, will present the annual awards.

Places for the conference are limited. Delegates are invited to email to book their free place and to obtain more information nearer the time.

In addition to the Speech and Language Therapy programme, the University offers a non-clinical Speech and Language Sciences degree as well as a programme in English Language and Linguistics.

Find out more about these courses by visiting our next BIG Open Day on Saturday, February 21, 2015.
