University of St Mark & St John elite sport scholars Rhea Gayle and Robyn Birch have won gold medals at the British Gas Diving Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Gayle is the new British women’s 1 metre diving champion scoring a personal best 273.15 points to clinch gold after topping the preliminary round leader board on 255.20.
Delighted Gayle tweeted: “Over the moon… women’s 1m British champion and a PB!”
She admitted she had a “different mindset” ahead of competition at Ponds Forge.
University elite sports scholar Birch teamed up with Shanice Lobb to claim gold in the women’s 10 metres synchro final on 270.78 points.
Both Gayle and Birch are part of Great Britain diving coach Andy Banks’ highly successful Plymouth Diving team.
