On 10th January the sports science lab at the University College St Mark and St John (UCP Marjon) in Plymouth hosted the GB services rugby league team for the day at their Derriford campus. They specifically chose to bring their players and coaches to UCP Marjon to provide their sport science support.
The sports science team will continue to aid in the measurement of factors such as strength, power, anthropometry and much more.
Sam Dovey currently runs Strength and conditioning and nutrition courses that UCP Marjon students complete and is the rugby team's lead strength and conditioning coach. He knows the facilities well and recommended UCP Marjon to be the site where the players will be physically tested.
Sam commented "When in discussion with the GB Services Rugby League Head Coach, Wayne Okell MBE, we both agreed that Marjon, was the obvious choice to run our Strength and Conditioning performance testing. Marjon has excellent facilities and it’s team, headed up by the highly regarded Caroline Westwood, has really helped support the KBT Education team here on the day."
The GB services Rugby Team will return to UCP Marjon on the 25th April for further training and Sam Dovey plans to bring more elite athletes to the sports facility during 2013.
