This week Jemma Rose, an Applied Sport Science for Coaching student at the University won gold at the World University Summer Games as a member of the GBR women’s football team.
Alex Mullin, a second year Sports Journalism student is currently competing in the CP ISIA Inter-continental Cup in Barcelona for the GBR Cerebral Palsy Football 7-a-side Team.
Following last year’s Olympic success we are also proud to report that Alumnus Helen Glover also won gold at the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne on Saturday in the pairs event with Polly Swann.
Stan Cinnamond, Director of Sport commented: “These results really illustrate our success in the nurturing and development of elite sport performance students. Our world class facilities, teaching programmes and applied research in health continue to attract world class sporting competitors. Research in sport and well –being is a key focus for the university and we are currently involved in innovative projects with the Peninsula Cancer Network, and Health Screening in the Workplace”.
Vice – Chancellor, Professor Cara Aitchison, Chair for the Joint UK Research Councils' Sport and Exercise Science, Leisure and Tourism Panel said: “This work reflects our capacity to engage in applied research which has a significant impact on health and well-being for the wider community”.
