Yesterday, Marjon opened their doors to over 700 students from Lipson Community College, Sir John Hunt and Tor Bridge High for an outstanding Employability and Volunteer Fair. This event was organised through the Partnership for Learning and Education (PLE), a consortium of the three schools. The students had the opportunity to attend seminars and attend an exhibition from over 30 national and international organisations such as Babcock, Santander, the Armed Forces and Synergy.
In addition, all the students attended a keynote speech delivered by Polar Explorer Antony Jinman.
Olivia Craig, Student Recruitment Manager at the University of St Mark & St John said “Marjon is committed to raising the aspirations of young people in the local community, and this event is a fantastic way to achieve this”.
The tone of the day was focused around broadening horizons and raising awareness of the career opportunities available to students when they leave school.
Jemma Flaxton, Acting Head of Sixth Form at Tor Bridge High said “This event has been inspirational for our students and we can’t thank Marjon enough for their generous hospitality as well as all the exhibitors and those who ran the seminars who have given up their free time”.
Becky (16) from Sir John Hunt CSC said “I wasn’t sure what to expect from today but it has definitely made me think more about my future”.
The next Marjon Open Day takes place on Saturday 13th October from 9.30am. Please register online.
