October Open Day Welcomes Students

An opportunity to check out the courses, halls of residence and world-class facilities at the renowned University of St Mark & St John takes place on 17 October.  

Students who are looking to study in 2016-2017 can register to attend the Open Day which runs on campus from 10:30 until 15:30.

The University of St Mark & St John prides itself on being a strong community where students are known by name and not by number.

It is known internationally for its contribution to Elite Sport and nationally for its contribution to Teacher Education.

An action-packed day includes talks from course leaders about degree programs, tours of the on-site accommodation, dining, entertainment, and sport facilities, as well as a tour of the City of Plymouth and local area.

Visitors will learn about the University’s rich heritage and its dynamic plans for the future in a welcome address from Vice-Chancellor Professor Cara Aitchison.

There will be a taste of student life in a talk by Student Union President Dan Whitby who will share his experiences and describe a host of social activities, clubs and sports teams available from the Marjon Student Union to make the most of your free time at University.

Dr Liz Smith, will introduce the University's pioneering and innovative model of university education that adds value to your degree by integrating a wide range of activities and opportunities to enhance your experience, qualifications and employability.

This approach, underpinned by our values and by digital scholarship, global citizenship and employer partnership, enables you to benefit from internships, professional qualifications, international exchanges, research and volunteer opportunities and much more.

Across all three faculties key programmes have continued to achieve results above the sector average of 86% for overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2015.

Courses achieving above average in the Faculty of Education & Social Sciences were: Children and Young People 100%, Early Years 100%, Secondary Education with Physical Education 94%.

In the Faculty of Culture & Language Sciences, the University’s flagship Speech and Language Therapy programme scored 94% and Speech Sciences achieved 90% student satisfaction.

The third faculty, which is renowned for its elite athletes and world-class sport facilities, the Faculty of Sport & Health Sciences, also attained above average with Applied Sports Science for Coaching scoring 94%, Coach and Physical Education 91% and Health Exercise and Physical Activity achieving 91%.

Students and their families are welcome to attend the Open Day on 17 October.

There are good transport links to the campus, which is located in the North of the City on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

There is a free bus from Plymouth Railway Station, and plenty of parking on site.
