University College Plymouth St Mark and St John recently welcomed a 4 strong delegation from Soran University in Kurdistan, for a three week visit during April and May. The visit was part of a collaborative five year agreement signed between the University College and Soran University to cover English language and academic and staff development.
The three week itinerary covered a wealth of objectives including: Human Resource policy and practice, the teaching of English (language and literature), quality assurance and external academic relations. In addition, the group gained an overview of UCP Marjon as well as exposure to English, class observation, student support and the opportunity to explore Plymouth and the South West
UCP Marjon Principal, Dr Margaret Noble said:
"This major project with Soran University has enabled us to share experiences in the development and delivery of university education and is the first stage in a range of collaborative initiatives that will take place over the next four years."
A number of UCP Marjon staff regularly visit Soran University as part of the collaboration and on a visit to Kurdistan last week, the Principal met with the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Affairs to discuss the collaborative programme.
