As headline sponsor, the University of St Mark & St John will host a breakfast for the Herald Sports Personality of the Year 2014 on Thursday 15th January.
Attending will be the award nominees; the University’s Elite Sport Scholars and Making a Difference athletes, as well as the event’s sponsors.
Delegates will have the chance to test their reactions against the ‘Pro Reaction’ machine, as well as enjoy a networking breakfast.
There will be speeches from Professor Cara Aitchison, Vice-Chancellor, Stan Cinnamond, Director of Sport at the University, and Paul Burton, Editor of The Herald. This will be followed by a tour of the University’s world class sporting facilities.
Emma Hewitt, Head of Marketing and Communications at the University said: “We’re delighted to welcome guests as the Sports Personality of the Year Awards is always a key event on our calendar to celebrate the achievements of the region’s great sports men and women.”
World champions originating from the University’s hall of fame include Helen Glover MBE – gold medallist in rowing at London 2012 and 2014 and Katherine Endacott gold and silver medallist for sprint in 2010 Commonwealth Games.
For more than a decade The Herald Sports Personality of the Year Awards have been recognising excellence in sport, and a commitment to improving sporting life and access to sport for all across the city.
Previous winners have included Plymouth Olympic diving star Tom Daley, the players and staff of Plymouth Argyle, Tamar Trotters, Katherine Endacott, Paul Sturrock, Scott Dann, Scott Drummond and Michaela Breeze.
The awards will be handed out at a glittering ceremony on Monday 2nd February at Plymouth Pavillions.
