A theatre production by South West company The Actors Wheel previews at the University’s Desmond Tutu Theatre on Wednesday 13 May.
The play is an amalgamation of literary texts based on the Faustian myth. It is about a scholar who is dissatisfied with life so he makes a pact with the Devil to sell his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
Director Kevin Johnson said: “We have re-worked the story and placed it inside this travelling fair of indulgence, where the players are eternally damned to travel through the ages and lands collecting more souls.
“We have been exploring the text with a highly physical ensemble approach to storytelling which we hope tempts you into this enticing world of sinful pleasure.”
Following the preview, the production will tour to Exeter’s Cygnet Theatre, Sterts Theatre in Cornwall, and Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre.
The Actors Wheel is a company of first year BA (Hons) Acting students from a three year professional training programme.
The actors make up a cast of 16 devils and characters Faustus and Mephistopheles. Costumes have been produced by Plymouth College of Art students and the Designer is Fiona Chivers.
Tickets are now available from each of the venues.
