The University of St Mark & St John is set to host the 2014 South West college sport championships in November after becoming the official higher education partner to British Colleges Sport.
British Colleges Sport Chief Operating Officer John Hole said: “This is a fantastic new partnership opportunity that will give students in the South West the chance to use state-of-the-art sports facilities at the University of St Mark & St John.
“The University supported our national championships in April and College Sport Week in May, and have already helped a number of FE students think about what steps they could take after college.”
The partnership comes at an exciting time for college sport, with British Colleges Sport and the Association of Colleges Sport Policy Team coming together to form a new organisation, AoC Sport, from August 1, 2014.
The South West college sport championships will be held at the University of St Mark & St John from November 12-19 with college students competing in 14 different disciplines.
Approaching 2,000 college competitors from England, Scotland and Wales took part in April’s national championships, where sports therapy students gave University of St Mark & St John a highly visible and practical presence.
The university’s Head of Marketing & Communications Emma Hewitt said: “Sport and physical activity is at the heart of life here on campus. We look forward to welcoming college students from across the region and beyond to find out more about our distinctive University and outstanding student experience, whilst they enjoy competing in student sport events.”
