Vice-Chancellor among 2,500 Midnight Walkers

Our Vice-Chancellor Prof Cara Aitchison and Olympic swim star Cassie Patten took part in the popular St Luke’s Hospice Midnight Walk from the University of St Mark & St John.

University sports scholar Patten, a 10k open water bronze medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, met walkers and wished them well on their way before setting off on a seven-mile stroll for charity.

University of St Mark & St John Vice-Chancellor Prof Cara Aitchison was among the 2,499 participants taking part in the eighth annual women's charity walk, which is started and finished at the University Sports Centre for the first time.

Prof Aitchison and a team from the university’s Registry Services also took part in the seven-mile stroll.

In the region of 1,100 women completed the longest Midnight Walk, a 15-mile route with another 120 registered to walk three miles from midnight.

The remaining 1,279 completed a seven-mile circuit.
