Released: 22.04.10
The annual Varsity Event run by the University of Plymouth and UCP Marjon has raised over £11,000 for charity. The sporting event took place from 15th – 17th March this year and involved over 250 students from each institution competing in a wide range of sports over the 3 days.
The main fundraising came from matches held at Plymouth Albion RFC and Plymouth Parkway FC, where tickets were sold.
The amount of money raised reflects the huge support, students from both institutions, gave to the event.
‘We are immensely proud of all the students’ who supported this event and helped raise so much money for such deserving causes’ comments Chris Rees VP Sports University of Plymouth Students’ Union.
This year students from the University Of Plymouth and UCP Marjon chose The Anthony Nolan Trust and The Motor Neurone Disease Association in support of the Simon Adams campaign.
‘It is fantastic that the enthusiasm that students from UCP Marjon and the University of Plymouth have for sport can raise so much money for charity. We would like to thank all the students, members of staff and facility providers that helped to make Varsity 2010 a success.’ Philippa Elford Manager of UCP Marjon’s Centre for Sport Development and Performance.
The presentation of the cheques to the charities will take place at the University of Plymouth Students’ Union on Tuesday 4th May at 4pm.
