West Devon Primary Schools Tag Rugby Festival
Released: 18.05.10
On Thursday, 20 May 2010 the University
College will once again be hosting the West Devon Primary Schools Tag Rugby
Festival. As last year, we will have 72
primary schools taking part in this knockout competition and, as well as having
great fun on the day, all participants will be helping to raise money for the
GB Police Rugby Section’s registered charity Child Victims of Crime
(CVC).
The UCP Marjon event is co-ordinated by a team
of hard working staff, with help from the School Sports
Coordinators and members of the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. The order for the day is to have fun and good
sportsmanship is actively encouraged among the teams; bad play is not
tolerated. Referees are equally provided
from students of UCP Marjon and Ivybridge Community College, and the local
police. This year the Devon and Cornwall
Constabulary have provided funds for the purchase of T Shirts, Medals and
Trophies. Each participating school is asked to raise
at least £25 from a sponsored rugby event for the Child Victims of Crime (CVC),
the registered charity of the Great Britain Police Rugby Section.
Last Year over £1,300 was raised for this
worthwhile charity. Volunteers from the
police force are taught how to coach the tag teams to participate in the
regional and national competitions, helping forge good relationships with the
schools and their pupils.
Registration for the event starts at
9.l5am, with the first games kicking off at 10.00. The finals begin at about 3.30pm.This
year the event has had to be carefully managed and co-odinated to accommodate
the building of our new Sports Centre but once again the children will be
playing across 12 specially marked out pitches on our Football and Rugby
pitches.
