Plymouth Marjon goalkeeper delighted to represent his country

Released: 25.05.10

Plymouth Marjon goalkeeper Jason Waitt was overjoyed to get a late call-up to the England Under-21 hockey squad for this week's Junior Open Challenge international tournament in Poland.

The 20-year-old Plymouth number one and UCP Marjon third-year student was studying for his finals when he received the call to team up with England for their four-team tourney in Siemianowice.

Former Kent county junior football goalkeeper Waitt made a cross-country dash from Plymouth to his Canterbury home to collect his passport and fly out with the Poland-bound England U21 squad just 16 hours after getting his late call on Monday.

UCP Marjon Sport Development Manager & Lecturer Jamie Oxley said: "It's a fantastic achievement and if anyone deserves it, Jason does. He has put a lot of time and effort into getting where he is today.
