Local people including 2 schools were invited to the University College to experience the annual Malaysian Festival.

Nikki Unwin,  Deputy President of UCP Marjon's Students' Union, said: "The festival was organised with the hope that it may help in bridging the gap between the locals and the Malaysian students through a variety of activities.

"The community presence was really felt on campus with local schools and their parents being actively involved with the food tasting, cooking, games and the other various activities our Malaysian students had to offer.

"This has been the biggest Malaysian Festival in many years with both organisers, staff and students feeling proud of what they had achieved on the day — and thankful for so many people being involved."

The festival theme was 'unity through diversity'. Activities included traditional games, Malaysian cooking, and cultural performances run by the Malaysian students at the university college.

They also presented a musical theatre performance entitled The Sound of Unity. One of the festival organisers, Malaysian student Preena Nair, said the event was "to experience the richness of the Malaysian culture".

Nikki Unwin also said that going to university or college "is about meeting people and experiencing things you may never otherwise have had the opportunity to" — and that the festival was a "perfect example" of that.
