UCP Marjon hosts its first ever Fairtrade Fashion Show
Released: 09.03.11
As part of this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight (28th February – 13th March 2011) the Chaplaincy at UCP Marjon decided to organise UCP Marjon’s first ever Fairtrade Fashion Show. The purpose of the event was to highlight the importance of fair trade and to encourage students to support UCP Marjon’s aim of becoming a Fairtrade University College.
The Fashion Show was held in the UCP Marjon Student Union Bar and was thoroughly enjoyed by the many students and staff who attended.
UCP Marjon students organised and hosted the entire evening, from modeling the clothes, providing the music, lighting and photography. The evening also included a Fairtrade quiz and an exhibition stand displaying information on issues surrounding fair trade with a representative from Fairtrade southwest on hand to answer any questions.
Clothes were supplied by Launceston based Nomads clothing and by Epona and Gossypium. Also modeled were some of the Fairtrade hoodies and joggers which are now being stocked by the UCP Marjon shop. In addition, Fairtrade footwear supplied by Ethletic was also on show.
The Co-op sponsored the event, generously providing free tasters of Fairtrade food products; there were also free samples of tea & coffee from Café Direct.
The evening was great fun for everyone involved and a successful ‘first’ for UCP Marjon.
Fairtrade goods are now available in the UCP Marjon shop for all to purchase.
