FAQ
How will I be informed about graduation ?
All graduation information will be published on the UCP Marjon website. Invitation letters and details will ALL be sent via student email addresses.
WARNING Student email accounts can often become full. If this happens the email will be rejected and will not be re-sent. Students are advised to ensure that their email accounts are checked regularly for important information.
If you have had problems with your email account please contact Computing Services.
Academic Dress
Do I have to wear Academic Dress?
Yes, full academic dress must be worn by graduands in accordance with the Students Regulations Framework section 21. Academic Dress consists of a gown; hood and mortar board. Graduands cannot be presented at the ceremony unless appropriately gowned.
What colour are UCP Marjon Gowns?
Gowns are black, the mortar board is black and the hoods (University College colours) are purple.
What do I wear beneath my gown?
Formal clothing should be worn as graduation is a formal occasion. Jeans, shorts and other similar casual wear are not acceptable.
Where do I get my gowns from?
You should hire your gowns from www.wippellgownhire.co.uk
Further details will be available nearer the date of your ceremony
The Wippell gown hire website will be live several weeks before the ceremony and you will be advised of this date in your graduation invitation letter. Gowns may be collected on the day of graduation from the area/room specified in you graduation invitation letter.
If I decide after ordering gowns not to attend will I get a refund?
You must inform Wippells at least 48 hours before the graduation that you do not wish to attend. All refund requests for gown hire should be made by telephone directly to Wippell Gown Hire – 01392 254234.
Photography
Will I be able to have professional photography taken?
Professional photographers Ede & Ravenscroft will be on site fon the day of the ceremonies. If you would like to take advantage of the online savings you may visit http://www.edeandravenscroft.co.uk or call 01223 861854.
We recommend that you order photographs ten days before your graduation to avoid delays on the day, although if you prefer not to pay in advance you will still have the opportunity to pay at the sales desk, though prices will be higher.
Eligibility
Am I eligible to attend graduation?
If you have successfully completed your studies and have no outstanding debts to the University College you are eligible to attend graduation. You may only attend a graduation ceremony to receive an award for which you are registered. For example if you withdraw from a Bachelor course having gained enough credits to obtain a Diploma of Higher Education, you will recieve a certificate but may not attend graduation.

Information for Debtors
Can I attend graduation if I am a debtor?
No, you will not be permitted to attend graduation if you have any outstanding debts to the University College and no tickets will be allocated to you.
The University College will withhold certificates from students in debt until such time as the debt is cleared.
Who will I graduate with?
Cohorts are arranged in the first instance by faculty, after this division is dependant on the number of students attending graduation in order to optimise the capacity of the venue.
Receiving your certificate
When will I receive my certificate?
If you are attending graduation every effort will be made to ensure that you receive your certificate during the graduation. If this has not been possible then your certificate will be forwarded to you after the ceremony. This is also the case for those who do not attend graduation and choose to have their degrees conferred in absentia.
Your full name, as recorded on the Student Record system will appear on your certificate. Your invitation letter will clearly show what this is and you must inform registry@marjon by the deadline stated in your letter of any changes.
Confirm your personal details
Where will my certificate be sent?
Certificates will be sent to your current address as registered on the student record system. Please go to http://www.marjon.ac.uk/students/portal/ if you need to amend your contact details. Certificates will be sent via recorded delivery and will therefore require a signature upon receipt.
Receiving your tickets
How do I obtain graduation tickets?
You will be invited to request and purchase graduation guest tickets when you return your graduation acceptance form. This will be included in your graduation invitation pack.
When will I receive my graduation tickets?
Graduand and guest tickets may be collected on the day of graduation from the registration desk in the Marjon Main Reception area. All guests and graduands must have a ticket to enter the graduation.
Do I have to pay for graduation tickets and how much do they cost?
Graduand tickets are free of charge
Guest tickets cost £10 each and every guest must have a ticket for each ceremony they wish to attend, with the exception of of very young children who may sit on an adults lap.
Can I obtain ticket refunds?
If you have requested and paid for tickets that you no longer require, you may obtain a refund if you request by email at least 72 hours before graduation, the graduation team will not be available to take telephone calls after this time. You must specify in your email:-
Your name
Your student number
Your contact telephone number
How you paid for your tickets and by whom
How many ticket payments you would like refunded
Refunds will be made after the graduation ceremonies have concluded
Special seating requirements
Do I need to inform you if I require special seating arrangements for myself or my guests?
Yes, there is a space on the graduation acceptance form where you can inform us of any special requirements for you and your guests.
Children
Are children allowed to attend graduation as guests?
Children may attend graduation but must be accompanied by an adult. All guests require a ticket with the exception of very small children who may sit on an adults lap. please be aware that graduation ceremonies are approximately 1.5 hours long and it is therefore recommended that children should be able to sit for this length of time.

Data Protection Act 1998
In accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 the University College may only discuss personal and individual student associated matters with the student. Registry staff are not at liberty to divulge information or take instruction from a third party, even if that third party is a family member.
Your name and degree will be printed in the souvenir programme but not the classification of your degree. You must inform us in writing, by the closing date for ceremony registration, if you would like this information withheld from the programme. You should also inform us by this date if you wish to make any amendments to your registered name.
Communications regarding graduation should be directed from your student email address to graduation@marjon.ac.uk. You must quote your full name, student number, programme of study and contact telephone number.
Please note we can only discuss ceremony details with the student who is graduating, this does not include family and friends.
