Interview preparation

Interview preparation

The interview process comprises two key elements:

  1. An individual interview lasting 20–30 minutes with a University tutor or Partnership school headteacher/ teacher;
  2. A group task where you will be expected to show your ability to share your enthusiasm for teaching and learning.

All candidates for the BEd Primary Education/(Early Years)/(Physical Education) programmes should ensure that they have gained at least 10 days prior experience working with children over the last 2 years. At least 5 days of this must be a mainstream primary school or early years setting (if you are applying for Early Years). This should be detailed in the personal statement and will be discussed at interview.

This can be just as an observer looking at different teaching methods, how the class is divided into groups, how literacy and numeracy is delivered, how behaviour is managed etc.  If you are invited to interview, you will be required to ask the setting/school to complete a form verifying this. This will be sent to you and must be completed and returned before interview.

Entrants for Initial Teacher Education programmes need to be aware of Government regulations regarding mandatory Professional Skills Tests in numeracy and literacy. These will be taken immediately after application and your offer will be conditional on passing these. The deadline for achieving these is 30th June 2016.
