Module Information
Year 1
During this year, students will be given the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their practice with young people, set within the wider context of social theory and policy at a time of rapid change within the field. A placement outside the usual work setting enables insight into a range of settings and working styles and offers further theory/practice insights.
Year 2
The second year provides opportunities to extend and consolidate students’ understanding of their own and others’ professional practice, incorporating a full-time placement in the students’ usual workplace together with more specialist study. This year includes a management module as part of the national strategy to build capacity within the workforce, in addition to providing enhanced career prospects for individual students. Successful completion of this year will lead to the award of a Foundation Degree.
Year 3
Students may decide to opt for direct entry into Year 3 of a BA Honours degree in either Youth and Community Work (which incorporates the JNC professional qualification), or Working with Children and Young People. Both of these routes are offered by UCP Marjon. This ‘top up’ year is independent of employer involvement.
