Shakespeare Summer school

Introduction

Sessions will focus upon relevant historical and contextual material.  There will also be detailed study of two plays, Richard III and Hamlet.  During the course of the week there will be an opportunity to travel to the Globe Theatre in London for a production of Richard III.

The course will be led by Dr. John Blakeley.  John specialises in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature.  He has lectured widely on Shakespeare’s work and published on the work of his contemporaries.

The cost of the course is £295 per person, including travel to London and a ticket for Richard III.  Accommodation can be arranged at additional cost.  There is also an opportunity for accreditation; participants will have the option of submitting a 2,500 work essay based on the course content and passable work will be awarded 10 C-level university credits.

Suitable for anyone interested in Shakespeare or for students who wish to excel in A Level and / or Degree Level work.

Module Information

During the course of the week, sessions will cover:

 

•   Elizabethan performance practice

•   The history of Shakespeare’s texts and their editing

•   Practical exploration of particular scenes with a trained actor

•   The study of cinematic adaptations of his plays

•   Recent theoretical approaches to their interpretation
