TDA Incentives

In addition to the tuition support and student loans, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) is currently offering further financial incentives and support (for those meeting the residency requirements) to offset the costs of PGCE training.

Trainee Teachers may be entitled to a tax free bursary from the TDA. The size of the bursary depends on training start date and the subject being taken. The new training bursary rates for eligible postgraduate trainee teachers starting eligible postgraduate ITT courses on or after 1st August 2010 are set out on the TDA website, www.tda.gov.uk.

Golden Hellos

Golden Hellos are taxable, one-off payments made at the start of the second year of teaching, after successful completion of the induction period and subject to eligibility criteria. The subjects and rates below apply for those teachers starting their postgraduate course (e.g. PGCE) in academic year 2009/10 and 2010/11. For more information visit www.tda.gov.uk

Access to Learning Fund

UCP Marjon also has an Access to Learning Fund to assist UK students in exceptional financial difficulty such that continued attendance on their course may be at risk.  Students eligible for other bursaries, grants or scholarships must apply to those schemes in the first instance.  In assessing hardship, all available sources of funding, including training bursaries and student loans, must have been utilised by the student.  All awards from the Access to Learning Fund are discretionary. Students with dependants may apply to their Local Education Authority for financial assistance from the ‘Parents Learning Allowance’.
