Help with Health Care Costs

To find out if you qualify for help with health care costs such as NHS prescriptions, dental and optical charges, also with hospital travel costs, view the HC11 booklet which gives guidance about NHS charging arrangements in England or view the NHS information page.

To apply you will need to complete and send a HC1 (claim for help with health costs) application and send to NHS Business Services Authority.  Applications through this link, or hard copies are held in Student Support for students to collect.

If you have already paid for something and want to claim a refund you will need to complete a claim within three months of the date you paid.

To claim your refund for health costs (except prescriptions) you will need to complete a form HC5, which is available online or from your local Post Offices.

To claim a refund for prescription costs only complete form FP57 (EC57 in Scotland). Remember to enclose a receipt or other proof of payment.

Further information contact the Health Benefits Division on 0845 850 1166.
