*Hints & tips on how to search the databases!*
Its got a mix of basic tips and some slightly more advanced techniques to build up to, but should help you find some decent results. Use it alongside the basic search guides for the individual databases

**TRIAL DATABASE**
Communication & Mass Media Complete - this is a key database, covering all areas related to communication and mass media, offering full text access to over 450 journals. The trial runs until the end of Feb 2012 - please send any feedback to cstevens@marjon.ac.uk

Academic Search Premier (ASP) - This is a multi-disciplinary database which covers all aspects of academic study. Its very user friendly and is almost entirely full-text.

Archival Sound Recordings - this is an database of audio clips, managed by the British Library. There are over 12,000 recordings of music, spoken word, and human and natural environments. Please go to 'log in via your home institution', then select 'University College Plymouth St Mark & St John' from the drop down box.

CERUKplus (Current Educational Research in the UK) - A freely accessible database covering all phases of education from early years to adults, including a wide range commissioned research and PhD level theses. Please note that this is a static database and is no longer updated.

EDINA Digimap Service - This is an online service that allows users to view and create maps of any location in great Britain using Ordnance Survey map data. For further details please contact Tony Atkin.

Education Research Complete (ERC) - a comprehensive educational database, covering topics including all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing.

Film & TV Literature Index with Full Text - this database covers all aspects of film & television research, including theory, production, screenwriting and technical aspects, plus movie reviews from Variety dating back to 1914. Also contains 36,000+ images from the MPTV Image Archive.

GrantFinder - a grants and policy database which includes details of over 6,000 funding opportunities. Please contact Claire Pearce cpearce@marjon.ac.uk or x3055 to set up a username and password.

Landmap - This site gives access to digital satellite imagery and digital elevation maps of the UK. This database now includes Mediterranean data comprising satellite imagery of Spain and Cyprus. You need to register with the site before you can download data. Please be warned that the data volumes are very large and can require specialist interpretation. Please contact Tony Atkin for further information.

Medline - Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences and much more. It is created by the National Library of Medicine.

MLA International Bibliography - An index of journal articles, books and dissertations produced by the Modern Language Association. The bibliography dates back to 1953 . Subject coverage includes literature, language and linguistics, folklore, literary theory and criticism, dramatic arts and historical aspects of printing and publishing.

Social Care Online - Provides access to summaries and an increasing number of full-text articles on social care issues.

SocIndex - A comprehensive sociology research database. It includes all areas of sociology, including social behaviour, human tendencies, interaction, relationships, community development, culture and social structure.

SportDevelopment.info - a database of sport and physical activity resources. This can only be accessed via Learning Space, so when you click on the link you will be directed to LS; you must log in to LS, and you will then be taken to the Library 'e-resources' section - there is a link to SportDevelopment.info at the bottom of that section. You will then need to register with your Marjon email address. These measures are in place due to publisher licensing restrictions.

SportDiscus Full Text - Offers bibliographic coverage of literature in the fields of sport, sports medicine, exercise psychology, biomechanics, psychology, training, coaching, physical education and fitness and other related disciplines. Theses and monographs date back to 1949 and journal coverage dates back to 1975.

Zetoc - BL Electronic Table of Contents - This database provides details of approx 20,000 journals and 16,000 conference papers, and is multi-disciplinary. Subject coverage is from 1993 to present and is updated daily by the British Library.
