UCP Marjon English graduate publishes book

John Michaelson studied English Language & Linguistics at UCP Marjon between 2004 & 2007, and since leaving has taught English as a foreign language and pursued his dream of writing.
In late 2008, Writebuzz.com invited members to submit the synopsis for a book which they had up their sleeve, together with the first chapter, as a competition to inspire budding authors. Writers were challenged with composing an un-putdownable novel, the motivational prize being a publishing contract in association with Writebuzz.com. John Michaelson's idea for 'Greg Aries, Public Dick' was the well-deserved winner.
John said “My experience at UCP Marjon really helped with my writing, and I'd like to extend a special thank you to Malcolm Maciver for his fascinating Stylistics module, which lit the blue touch-paper, so to speak. The experience at UCP Marjon also helped, with a small student to lecturer ratio I was able to chat with Malcolm regularly and was therefore more confident to write. Though descriptions of the book vary from darkly funny to bizarre, my own take is more along the lines of foolish fun with plenty of heartfelt pathos. I'm now working on my second book, which I hope will be finished by late summer.”
