UCP Marjon Sports Federation

Student sport can form a large part of life for many UCP Marjon students. All students are encouraged to get involved, at a level that suits them. So whether you are looking to compete on a Wednesday afternoon in BUCS competition or are looking to get involved with the administration of a student club, volunteering or coaching the UCP Marjon Sport Federation can help.

The day to day running of the UCP Marjon Sports Federation falls under the remit of UCP Marjon Sport. However the SF Executive Committee (which includes student representation) also has the opportunity to affect the governance of student sport at UCP Marjon. The Student Sport Officer, Kathryn Kearney, is responsible for the administration of BUCS and the development of student sport at UCP Marjon. If you have any questions about student sport at UCP Marjon Kathryn can be contacted on 01752 636700 ext: 3084 or by email: kkearney@ucpmarjon.ac.uk.  Kathryn can be located in the main foyer of the Sports Centre. Contact details are unchanged.

During fresher’s week students are given the opportunity to join the UCP Marjon Sport Federation and sport specific clubs. At present the following clubs are constituted for the 2011/12 season: Badminton, Basketball, Cheerleading, Dance, Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby, Swimming & Waterpolo, Tennis, Volleyball, Winter Sports and Surf. If your sport isn’t on this list there is the opportunity for new clubs to be formed; contact Kathryn for more information.

UCP Marjon Sports Scholarships

UCP Marjon provides Sports Scholarships to assist talented athletes to continue with their sporting careers without compromising their education. The scheme has been set up to support students recognised by their governing body as ‘elite’. This includes athletes who have been offered Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) and World Class funding by Sports Aid and UK Sport. In addition we can support students competing at a high level whose sport is not recognised by TASS.

The Sports Scholarship scheme not only covers the provision of tailor made scholarships for the University College’s two focus sports; Men’s Basketball and Women’s Football, but also talented individual athletes, of  national standard,  from other sports.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be studying on a UCP Marjon degree programme to be eligible for a sports scholarship
  • Students must have represented their chosen sport at regional/national level
  • Applicants can only apply for one scholarship per academic year
  • All sports scholars must represent UCP Marjon in the BUCS Championships, Varsity and other related student sports championships
