Training for students

IT Training & Support (previously known as Marjon Open Learning Unit) is the University’s open learning unit which is conveniently located next to the 24-hour computer room.   The team is available to provide you with support and training for basic or advanced IT skills.

Specific help is available for:-

  • Logging on and using the online Password Reset Manager
  • Navigating LearningSpace
  • Wireless help and configuration
  • Re-directing your marjon e-mail to another email address
  • Searching on the Internet
  • Using Prezi
  • Creating online questionnaires using Survey Monkey
  • Help with the layout of your work in Word/Excel/PowerPoint/DTP
  • Setting up your dissertation template

IT Training Workshops

We regularly advertise IT Training workshops on the Hub. Students are welcome to book and attend these sessions or request a training workshop on a specific subject.

Free IT Support and Training

Training and support is also available for Microsoft applications including:-

  • Word
  • Excel spreadsheets
  • Creating graphs and charts
  • PowerPoint
  • Access database
  • Desktop publishing
  • Microsoft Outlook

As a University student the above support is free to you, during our opening hours.

In addition the team can help you work towards and gain recognised national IT qualifications, such as the OCR Awards (CLAiT, CLAiT Plus & Text Processing) and the BCS Awards (ITQ, ECDL, ECDL Advanced & Certificate in Touch Typing).  These qualifications will enhance your CV and improve your career prospects, as they are recognised by employers (and will prove your IT competency). The IT qualifications will also improve your study skills by making you more efficient and productive.

The training for these accredited awards is free, but you will have to pay the exam fee for each modular exam undertaken.
