Centre for Professional & Educational Research

The Centre for Professional & Educational Research (CPER) is a multi-disciplinary centre for research, evaluation and consultancy work focusing on education and professional practice.  We have three focal themes:

Social Inclusion: examination of the ways in which different individuals and groups within society may be included, excluded or marginalised, and means of challenging barriers to inequality.

Education Policy & Practice: this theme embraces the changing policy contexts for learning and teaching at all levels, the practices through which learning is enabled and supported, and the relations between policy and practice.

Health & Wellbeing: professional practice and education relating to all aspects of physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

University College Plymouth St Mark and St John (UCP Marjon) are working in partnership with Peninsula Cancer Network and Macmillan Cancer Care to provide opportunities for those that have been diagnosed with Cancer to engage with physical activity. If you are a fitness instructor and would like to be involved follow this link.

The CPER also produces Critical & Reflective Practice in Education, a peer-reviewed open access journal.

Use the links on the left to see examples of the work we do and opportunities for postgraduate research.  If you are interested in working with the CPER or commissioning some research, please contact Dr. Sean MacBlain or Dr. Pauline Couper.

Retired members of staff who remain active in research can become Associate Members of the Centre by email Dr Pauline Couper.  Such membership entitles you to:

  • attend all events organised by the Centre
  • receive an electronic copy of the Research Matters newsletter
  • use the designation, 'Associate Member of the Centre for Professional & Educational Research at University College Plymouth St Mark & St John'.
