You can apply to be either a camp counsellor or a member of the Campower staff. Counsellors are responsible for coaching and assisting campers in a variety of sports, arts and waterfront activities. As a counsellor, you’ll be spending a lot of time with the kids, so you need to be patient and understanding. Campower staff run things behind the scenes, so you’ll be in charge of things like the office, kitchen, maintenance, groundskeeping and laundry. The UnderGround team can help you to decide which role fits you best if you’re not sure.
When you take part in Camp America, your whole summer will be filled with fun from start to finish. Camp traditionally lasts nine weeks (starting in May or June), plus you’ll need to attend a weeklong orientation event. After your placement is finished, you’ll have up to 30 days to hit the road and explore the USA.
Aside from all the fun you’ll have, Camp America is a great boost to your CV. The experience helps you develop key transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, responsibility, leadership, dedication and commitment to name a few. Plus you get to make friends from all over the world and explore one of the most exciting countries in the world, giving your university experience that extra bit of spice and variety.
Our strong links with Camp America help to make the application process totally straightforward. You can start your application online through our website, then you’ll be invited to a face-to-face interview with a regional representative. Every interviewer has been to camp themselves, so it’s a great opportunity to get all the answers to your questions. Interviews are informal and are purely there to help prepare you for your Camp America experience, and make sure it’s the right path for you. If you have any questions before applying, the UnderGround team is here for you.
