Newly Qualified Teacher Charter

Many teachers look back to their first year of teaching as the crucial foundation for a successful career in the profession. Gaining the right support network and having access to resources can make a real difference in sustaining and developing outstanding Newly Qualified Teachers as they progress through this rewarding, yet challenging first year.

To support the development of outstanding teachers, we are working in partnership with NQTs and their mentors in primary and secondary schools; their views and experiences have played a critical role in shaping our NQT provision. See our:

  • Plymouth Marjon Universiy MA Education centres on your own needs, research interests and work-based contexts and included a flexible modular structure including a module covering NQT period – as an alumni of the university you gain discount, there is also postgraduate funding available.

We have created the MARJON TEP which provides a wealth of information and useful resources for Primary and Secondary subjects including links to current Ofsted reports.  Keep checking the above link for news, resources and updates.‌

Our careers support doesn't end when you graduate. As a Plymouth Marjon University graduate you can still use the Careers Service for up to 5 years after graduation.

Annual NQT conference

Held every April this conference is tailor made to meet emerging needs from your NQT year – employers request the content to meet  your needs, themes in the past have included  innovative pedagogies, literacy development, emotional health and wellbeing in schools, safeguarding  and prevent, closing the attainment gap and improving maths to name a few. Keep this date free, 21 April 2017.

Effective Liaison with Employers

Plymouth Association of Primary Heads (CIC), Plymouth City Council and Plymouth Marjon University are working in Partnership to design and deliver Continuing Professional Development for Plymouth Schools. The Partnership has developed an accreditation framework and comprehensive pathway of study for all those in the education sector, at all stages of their career. With particular reference to NQTs, the University, on behalf of the Partnership, has designed a specific NQT Reflective Practice module, will hold NQT and Reflective Practice events throughout the year, and will track all NQTs providing the Partnership with detailed data enabling it to focus training opportunities.
