Families from across the UK will visit the ‘best university in Plymouth for Student Satisfaction’, Marjon, at its new interactive Undergraduate and Postgraduate Open Day.
Taking place this Saturday 15 October, the Marjon Open Day runs from 09:30 until 15:00. In a special talk and Q&A session, Olympic diver Sarah Barrow will share her experiences with ‘Inside Rio: An Audience with Sarah Barrow’.
Dr Karen Cook, Acting Vice-Chancellor at the University of St Mark & St John, said: “Our new Open Day programme is designed to allow students to see much of what makes us proud of our small and successful University and how we all work together to support every single student to be their best, leading to the accolade of being named the best University for social mobility in the UK.”
Visitors can look forward to an action packed programme of entertainment, drop-in sessions, interactive workshops and campus tours by current students throughout the day.
Basketball fans will be able to shoot hoops with the Plymouth Raiders as they train at Marjon’s Sport Centre, following a recent sponsorship deal with the club.
The Actors Wheel theatre company, made up of actors from the BA Acting programme, are performing at 11:15 and there will be acoustic sessions performed by musicians throughout the day in the Student Union Bar.
For those applying to University there’s a workshop about writing personal statements for UCAS.
There will be demonstrations of the Sports Science Laboratory equipment and people can see the sports therapy & rehabilitation equipment in action, including Marjon’s anti-gravity treadmill.
A diverse range of courses are available at the University of St Mark & St John spanning not just sport and teacher training, but a range of applied language sciences, health sciences, journalism and creative arts, business management, children, young people and communities, and social sciences.
The University believes its focus on employability works, with 95% of its graduates in work or further study (DLHE 2016).
An Open Day is a great chance to get a feel for student life on campus and look around the student accommodation – which is guaranteed for all first years. There are subject talks and the chance to discuss course choices with tutors.
An official welcome from the University’s Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr Karen Cook at 10:00am will be followed by sessions about student finance, accommodation and Postgraduate study.
