We have started work on a new student-centred hub as part of improvement works to be opened this Autumn.
The development will include a brand new student bar, with an extension of the reception area into an open plan student reception and hub. The hub is designed as a one-stop shop for Marjon’s comprehensive student support services, with access to services as diverse as learning support; employability and career development; counselling; placement support or finance advice all in one space.
New Vice-Chancellor Professor Rob Warner said: “Marjon has always been rated very highly by our students for our outstanding student support network, but bringing much of this into one place will enable us to ensure that all students can easily access the support they need.”
The new bar will be purpose built to be flexible enough to work as a café and social space in the day, a bar at night and to hold events. This extends the event space of the campus beyond the current role of the 400-seat Desmond Tutu theatre.
This work sits alongside further campus development, with work currently progressing on a new all-weather hockey pitch. This pitch will be used extensively by players across the South West, leading to Marjon being named as one of 13 performance centres for England Hockey, hosting training, games and large-scale tournaments.
Professor Warner added: “Marjon continues to be committed to giving our students a unique university experience which both challenges them and is incredibly supportive, and we are excited about our future development plans.”
