Scores of Plymouth primary schools pupils attended a unique Gifted & Talented Day at the University of St Mark & St John (on Thursday December 10).
The talented young sports people had already won indoor athletics events as part of a national initiative, led city-wide by students on the university’s BA (Hons) Sports Development programme.
Those same youngsters – approximately 15 from each of five sports-promoting primary schools – attended last week’s special day, led by university students on the BA (Hons) Children’s Physical Education programme and the BA (Hons) Physical Education Programme and hosted in the University Sports Centre.
The day was organised by Erica Eaton Quinn and Ryan Thomas, Faculty of Sport & Health Sciences Senior Lecturers at the University of St Mark & St John.
Joint organiser Thomas said: “This is the only event of its type in the city and utilises the academic and practitioner experience of staff and students to provide a unique opportunity for talented children across various sports.
“We have been working closely with the Plymouth School Sports Partnership on this opportunity and the event was over double the size of last year’s inaugural event.”
