Role Summary

Dr Stephen McGuire joined the University in 2020 as a lecturer in sport and exercise science with a primary responsibility for physiology, research methods, and strength and conditioning. Prior to this, Steve worked as a researcher for the UK Ministry of Defence, before going on to complete his PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Chichester.

Research

Steve’s main research interests are in performance and resilience of individuals exercising in arduous conditions. Prior to joining Marjon Steve completed his PhD at the University of Chichester, investigating the use of resistance training to enhance employment opportunities for women entering the UK Armed Forces. Steve completed his PhD within the University of Chichester’s Occupational Performance Research Group, with a wider aim of defining fair employment standards for the British Army. Prior to this, Steve also worked for the UK Ministry of Defence to assess the physical demands of basic training undertaken by British Army recruits.
