Scholarship and bursary information

Bursaries and the University Hardship Fund

A number of bursaries are offered by Plymouth Marjon University to those students who meet the qualification criteria. A bursary is an additional source of financial assistance supplied by the University and is paid directly into your bank account. This type of financial support is in addition to any student loans that you may receive and does not have to be repaid. Bursaries are not available to those students on externally funded programmes.

Care Leaver and Estranged Student Bursaries

Bursaries are available for students who are classified as Care Leavers or Estranged from their family who are aged under 25 on the 1st September on the first year of their course. Please refer to the Care Leavers and Estranged Students webpage for further information.

University Hardship Fund

Students who are experiencing financial hardship can apply to the University Hardship Fund. If you have children, are a mature student with existing financial commitments, are from a low-income family, were previously in care, are homeless or have other financial difficulties then you may be eligible for an award from the fund.
All applications will be means tested and payments will usually be made in installments. Students can apply to the fund once they are fully registered at the University.
The University Hardship Fund application form and guidance notes are available from the Student Funding Advice section of Learning Space, hard copies from the Information Hub or to request a copy to be emailed or for further information please contact

Assistance may also be provided to students on work based placement to support travel and subsistence costs. Support is available to all years and is assessed according to greatest need. Details of support available can be found on the relevant course pages.

Fee Waivers

Fee waivers may be offered to support sports scholars and local students progressing from FE partner colleges to Plymouth Marjon University. These schemes are not available to students in partnership institutions or those who are co-funded.
