Early Career Teacher Charter

Many teachers look back to their early stages  of teaching as the crucial foundation for a successful career in the profession. Gaining the right support network and having access to resources can make a real difference in sustaining and developing outstanding Early Career Teachers as they progress through this rewarding, yet challenging  induction period.

To support the development of outstanding teachers, we are working in partnership regional teaching school hubs , ECTs and their mentors in primary and secondary schools; their views and experiences have played a critical role in shaping our NQT provision. See our:

  • MA Education centres on your own needs, research interests and work-based contexts and included a flexible modular structure including a module covering ECT period – as an alumni of the university you gain discount, and there is postgraduate funding available.
  • MA Early Years supports students as they gain Early Years Teacher Status.
  • Marjon University Cornwall provides opportunities that enhance the continuing professional development and learning (CPDL) of educators in Cornwall and supports further engagement with educational research in the county.
  • Marjon Futures  We’re here for you after graduation too. Futures online has a dedicated graduate area focussing on helping Marjon alumni to secure their first graduate role.
  • Marjon Alumni Once you have graduated you remain part of the Marjon community.

 

Early Career Framework

The Department for Education have created an early career framework (ECF) newly qualified teachers designed to make sure early career teachers focus on learning the things that make the most difference in the classroom and their professional practice.

The Early Career Framework  is closely aligned to the Teachers’ Standards  and builds on a complements your initial teacher training programme

The Department for Education has selected six expert teacher training providers who have each developed their own core induction programme based on the ECF these are Freely available here.

The ECF is  part of your DFE induction  for early career teaching. Your statutory induction is the bridge between initial teacher training and a career in teaching. It combines a structured programme of development, support and professional dialogue, underpinned by the Early Career Framework, with monitoring and an assessment of performance against the Teachers’ Standards.
