Plymouth Marjon University is delighted to announce our new partnership with Plymouth Raiders Basketball Club.
Plymouth Marjon University and Plymouth Raiders have had a strong relationship for a number of years. Formerly members of the British Basketball League (BBL), the Raiders now play in the NBL Division 3 South – hoping they can elevate themselves to be one of Plymouth’s ‘big 3’ sports teams once again, alongside Plymouth Argyle FC and Plymouth Albion RFC.
Many Marjon alumni have played for the Plymouth Raiders including ex Raiders coach Gary Stronach, aswell as Jamie Burchell, Dean Williams, Rod Wellington, Deng Deng, Myron Riley, Gavin Love and Denzel Ubiaro among others. We currently have a number of different students who train and play for Raiders aswell as the Marjon BUCS Bassketball team. The University is a main sponsor of Plymouth Raiders and provides the training base for the Raiders team.
The partnership means students of Sport Coaching, Sports Therapy, Strength & Conditioning and Sport & Exercise Science and Sport Journalism get to work with these athletes. Our student Basketball team have been making huge strides of improvement in recent years
The Marjon Basketball 1st team compete in Western 1A in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league & and the 2nd team compete in BUCS Western 3A league & P&D League.
