Marjon Mens Football team play at Varsity

Our teams have a healthy competitive spirit, no matter what level you want to play at. Check out our teams below and contact them directly, or through the Sports Federation, to give one a try. New members are always welcome.

Varsity Week, usually held in March, is students’ chance to play against students from Plymouth University. Games are held on campus and at major sporting grounds in the city.

Men's Basketball

The Marjon Men's Basketball club are one of the most successful clubs at Marjon. This has been helped by our partnership with BBL team, Plymouth City Patriots, who coach and include Marjon as part of their development system. The club runs 2 teams in BUCS, with the 1st team in Western 1A - proving themselves to be one of the best teams in the South West and competing on a national level. The 2nd team compete in Western 3A, developing a foot hold in the Western region. The club is also developing a 3rd team that will compete in the Plymouth & Distrct league, being a platform for development and for those new to Basketball.

Dance

Yes, dance is a real sport! We are one of the few sports team at Marjon University that doesn’t throw, kick or catch a ball and we pride ourselves on that. We welcome all abilities and styles, whether you’ve been dancing your whole life or have never boogied on the dance floor. Each year we do two performances which you can choose to be in or not.

When we’re not dancing, we love a good social. We hold both alcoholic and non-alcoholic events so everyone can be involved and have a great time! Contact us on Facebook or Instagram.

Men’s Football

Marjon Men’s Football Club currently have 5 teams. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd teams compete in BUCS, Western 2A, 5A & 6A respectively. The 4th teams are in the local Devon Wednesday league, whilst the 5th team also know as the Sundays compete Plymouth & West Sunday league. Open trials are at the start of the academic year.

The club have great relationships with The Argyle Community Trust through coaching opportunities and various local clubs in Devon and Cornwall.

Women’s Football & Futsal

New to this season, Marjon Ladies Football Club has integrated with the futsal team to become Marjon Ladies Football and Futsal Club. In doing so, we hope this provides more opportunity to progress and improve our players as overtime we aim to become a pathway into elite football. To help us do this, we have a strong link with Argyle Community Trust, who provide the football team with Argyle coaches. We currently have one football team who play in the Western 2A league and one futsal team who play in the Western Tier 1 league.

Men’s Futsal

The Men's Futsal club was set up in 2019 and have been competing in BUCS since 2021. Futsal is a fast paced form of football, with not many players in the club having played before they came to Marjon. As well as BUCS, the team plays against local teams with players who aren't able to play at the BUCS level just yet. There has never been a better time to start!

Golf

One of our newest clubs is Golf. The club is open to all for a soicalable time playing a relaxing sport. The club doesn't compete in BUCS as a team but there are always opportunites for individuals to represent marjon against other universities.

Men’s Hockey

We welcome anyone with any hockey experience who wants to have some fun, but also be part of a great club and team. We are a self-coached team, with our captain and other senior players helping to run training sessions to a high standard.

Alongside playing in a university league, we have a very strong link with the local hockey club, Plymouth Marjon Hockey. By playing for the club and University team you get the chance to play lots of hockey throughout the week with different people.

Women’s Hockey

The Marjon Women’s Hockey Club is a fun and welcoming team that welcomes new and old players to come and play hockey. We are a very team orientated club and have socials after our training sessions. The club consists of one team and we try to get everyone to have some pitch time.

Men’s Lacrosse

When you think of Lacrosse, you think of it being an American High School and College sport. However , Marjon Lacrosse is a big part of the culture here being one of our most successful teams. Our Men's Lacrosse team compete in BUCS Premier South, the highest division in the country. They travel to play teams such as Bristol, Oxford and going as far as Durham in the National Championship.

Marjon Lacrosse gives you a great environment to try a new sport and represent Marjon. 

 

 

Women’s Lacrosse

The Marjon Women’s lacrosse team is a forever growing club with people of all abilities able to attend. With only having one team it allows anyone to step in and join whenever. We will be competing in Division B of BUCS Western Tier 2 for the 2022/24 season where we will face teams from universities in Exeter, Bournemouth, and Southampton. Last year was the most successful year for us so far finishing 3rd overall for the BUCS Western 2b in our league. and we are only looking to improve from there. This year, local opposition from the University of Plymouth will be joining Division B, which promises to intensify the rivalry ahead of the hotly contested annual varsity match that will be played in March.

Netball

Marjon Netball Club is proud to be Marjon's largest women's club, with the number of players joining the club increasing each season. At Marjon Netball, we are a friendly group that aspires to continue seeing players enjoying the game and developing their skills. We have four competitive teams; the first team is in BUCS Western 4A. The second team plays in the local Plymouth League PDNL in division 4. The third team is in division 5 and new this year; the fourth is in division 6. For those who do not want to play competitively, we also hold social netball, where you can come along and have a pass around with others.

Men’s Rugby

The Men's Rugby team is growing and you should be a part of it! The team invites players of all abilities to join, so it doesn't matter if you are a scholar looking to play at the next level or someone who has never played before. The team competes in BUCS with a 2nd team being developed to play in more local competitions. The club has a great relationship with Plymouth Albion as they give the club coaches and give you the chance to showcase your skills.

Women’s Rugby

The Marjon Womens rugby club are a developing and ever growing team at Marjon. We are extremely lucky to have a partnership with Plymouth Albion RFC this year to maximise the potential the individuals and the team have. The club has one team with the hope of developing a 2nd team in the future. This team runs in BUCS in the Women’s Western Tier 2 - 2A and the Women’s Western Conference Cup. Last year we placed mid table in the league after a tough start to the year and by the end of the year we were playing the best rugby we have ever seen. Rugby is a sport for all and we at MWRFC open our arms for all that want to play Women’s rugby here at Marjon. We are very proud of our coaching team that have helped develop players that have never played rugby before to be gaining starting shirts weekly. We are excited and look forward to welcoming new individuals that wish to play rugby this academic year. 

 

Swimming & Water Polo

We have a well-established Women’s Water Polo Team is in the Western Tier 1 League, as well as an up-and-coming Men’s team that hopes to have many friendlies this year leading to BUCS next year. We have a very successful competitive swim squad who have made finals at BUCS Nationals and the Commonwealth Games. We also have a strong social swimming squad who have competed all over the Southwest at master’s competitions and interclub events! We also have a group of social swimmers who just come for a chat and a bit of a swim and do not compete. We cater for each and every individual! We have regular socials which vary in theme from drinking socials to mini golf and pizza parties.

Table Tennis

We are one of the newest Marjon BUCS teams for the 2023/24 season. We offer BUCS competition for our Men's team, whilst our Women's team continue to grow and will go into BUCS soon. We also to play in a local league/competitions for those new to the sport. We are very inclusive, and any standard of play is welcome! Come along and give table tennis a go, whether you plan to compete or just to socialise and have fun.

Badminton

The Badminton club was set up in 2022 and will be entering a Men's team into BUCS for the first time in 2023/24. Alongside our BUCS team, they have a local league team for both Men and Women players. This is a fun club where you can compete or just have fun with some friends.

Volleyball

The Marjon Volleyball club includes the men's and women's teams. The men's compete in BUCS and the women's in the Exeter & District league. They are looking to extend into more local competitions which makes it a great time for you to join!

Cheerleading

Cheerleading is a very new sport to Marjon, going in to its 3rd year in September 2021. The team includes a range of different personalities, abilities and age. We welcome students with all kinds of experience whether that’s dance, gymnastics or none at all. This is a very good sport for someone looking to try something new. The club is sociable, friendly and very focused on team work.

Wheelchair Basketball

Wheelchair Basketball is one of our newest BUCS teams. Our Wheelchair Basketball team competes in Southern Tier 1 in a league where they play against Cardiff Met, East London & Brunel. The league is an open gender competition, meaning it is inclusive to all students at Marjon. You don't have to be a wheelchair user to join and wheelchairs will also be provided for training and matches

The team is coached by our partner Wheelchair Basketball club, Plymouth Fusion - who are a national level team. Our coaches will be able to give you the tools to enjoy a new sport whilst at Marjon.

Women's Basketball

Women’s Basketball are heading into their 2nd year in BUCS where they have moved up to Western 1A. The team had great success in their first year by winning the league and cup double, whilst finishing off the season with the Varsity title.

The club welcome any one of any ability and level of knowledge! Our team is friendly, sociable and very keen to grow! Come along to a session to meet new people, get fit and play some basketball! 

Other than basketball we will be holding some socials to gain more team spirit and get to know each-other off the court!
