The Marjon student-led clinic provides our speech & language therapy students with the opportunity to gain essential clinical experience. Students are supported and supervised by specialist therapists. We aim to provide gold-standard care to the families and individuals we work with. This means we take our time to work out how to best support people needing our help and offer the best evidence-based therapy we can.
Student work is supervised by staff holding professional membership of the Health and Care Professions Council, insurance, and membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. All staff and students hold enhanced DBS certificates.
We are setting up specialist clinics to serve children and adults with acquired communication disorders and complex communication difficulties associated with autism and/or intellectual disabilities. This includes working with autistic catatonia.
We also provide assessment and therapy to children and young people with persisting developmental speech and language disorders that have not responded as anticipated to past interventions.
We are research led and empower our students to ask questions and find answers by using critical thinking and reasoning to provide best practice. This means we strive to offer gold standard intervention and add to the current evidence base. This includes the use of highly specialist ultrasound equipment as an assessment and therapy tool for speech difficulties.
Our students complete their clinical placement in a progressive and forward thinking setting that aims to build their competence, one step at a time. For example, we encourage our final year students to mentor our first-year students when they join us for their first clinic experience in May of each year.
We offer assessment, individual treatment plans, training and advice for children and adults. We offer appointments face-to-face or via telehealth. When you contact us, we can discuss your individual needs and options for assessment, and ongoing speech and language therapy consultations.
Due to the specialist nature of our services our referrals are triaged to ensure we are able to provide appropriate support.
