Valentine’s Day #MetAtMarjon

Released: 22.02.18

It was Autumn 1971 in Chelsea and unlike the trees, love was beginning to blossom. Within Porter’s Lodge, in the College of St Mark’s, sat Richard Chatterton and Susan Chitty’s pigeon holes. Through their surnames, the pair found themselves adjacent to one another. Whilst foraging through their post, both Richard and Susan discovered that not only had they taken the same A-level subjects but they were both enrolled to study English at the college. Paired alphabetically on school placements, their relationship began to flourish. The College of St Mark and St John moved in 1973 when the Chelsea site became too small, bringing Richard and Susan down to Plymouth for their final year of study at Marjon. Here, they spent many nights in the Student Union dancing to classic 70’s hits like The Rolling Stone’s ‘Angie’ and Bowie’s ‘Jean Genie’. After graduation, a move back to where it all began was needed and the couple bought their first house in London in 1983. Fast forward 35 years and Richard and Susan are enjoying married life and retirement in the same house!
