Plymouth Marjon University is supporting the #BlowTheWhistle campaign, reinforcing its commitment to developing sport and football professionals who lead with integrity, care and responsibility.

Plymouth Marjon University is proud to stand alongside organisations to support the launch of the ‘Blow the Whistle’ campaign, calling for collective action to challenge abuse and promote safety, respect and fairness in all areas of life.

As a university with a strong specialism in sport, coaching and football careers, the campaign speaks directly to the values that underpin both education and practice.

Sport has the power to bring people together, shape communities and create opportunity. But its impact depends on environments where individuals feel safe, supported and able to speak up. The #BlowTheWhistle campaign reinforces a shared responsibility: when something isn’t right, we notice, we act, and we don’t look away.

At Marjon, these principles are embedded across teaching, training and partnerships. Students preparing for careers in football, coaching and sport development are encouraged not only to excel professionally, but to lead with awareness, empathy and accountability.

Dan Tyler, Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Marjon says: “Sport has an incredible ability to change lives, but that depends on cultures built on respect and trust. At Marjon, we prepare our students for careers in football and sport where speaking up is part of leadership. Supporting the ‘Blow the Whistle’ campaign reflects our belief that everyone has a role to play in creating environments where people feel safe and supported.”

The campaign aligns closely with Marjon’s wider civic mission, working with partners, clubs and communities across the region to promote positive, inclusive environments both on and off the pitch.

Whether in grassroots football, education settings or community spaces, the message is clear: abuse is never acceptable, no one should face it alone, and support is always available.

By backing #BlowTheWhistle, Marjon is encouraging students, staff and partners to take shared responsibility; to notice, to care and to act - helping to build a culture where respect and safety are visible every day.

As the World Cup begins, Plymouth Marjon University stands together with partners in saying: play your part, call out abuse and blow the whistle.
