Marjon marketing team win gold in top industry awards

The Marjon marketing and outreach team has been recognised as one of the top Higher Education marketing teams in the country, bringing home the top prize of Gold for Marketing Team of the Year, and scooping a Highly Commended award for their 2017 undergraduate prospectus.

The prestigious ‘Heist Awards’ have been running for 28 years and are synonymous with excellence and innovation in marketing within the higher education sector.

The team was shortlisted against some of the leading Universities in the country when they attended the prestigious award ceremony in July.

Katy Willis, Director of Marketing and Student Experience comments, “Marjon is a hugely motivational community, full of amazing stories and achievements to inspire us in our marketing every day. We work hard because we want the whole Marjon team of staff and students to be recognised for the impact they have on the world.

“As a small team, we’re so proud to be recognised for how much we’ve achieved over the year, but we couldn’t have done it without the staff and students to inspire us. We’ve aimed to work in a collaborative, creative and appreciative way with students, potential students and the whole Marjon team to put the student voice and our values at the centre of everything we do.”

The award recognises key marketing projects delivered in 2017 including the development and launch of the new brand identity, Plymouth Marjon University; a new style prospectus designed with student focus groups to create a publication ‘by students for students’; new course content web-pages; the development of a new UCAS Fairs student journey leading to 80% increase in conversations with prospective students; and a Redefining of Values consultation with staff, the results of which have been used to inspire the successful marketing initiatives. The projects have brought great results, including a 35% increase in UCAS applications year on year.

The judges commented, “Plymouth Marjon University have poured their energy and commitment into building a bold and brave brand. Their collaborative enthusiasm and drive is results focused and the most impressive message here is that they have done it, they have turned things around and this really is a feel-good story.”

Katy Willis adds, “Coming home with a highly commended award and Gold for Marketing Team of the Year was an amazing surprise, when we were up against some huge universities with enormous resources. It’s testament to the tremendous hard work of the team, whose passion and energy are infectious, and the ambitious and positive spirit of Marjon – we are all about aiming high, not only for students but for staff as well.

“2017 was the year in which our marketing matured, giving us a strong foundation to move forward. This will see us continue to establish Marjon as a brave, pioneering, challenger University, reflecting the innovative spirit of our founding fathers in the 1830s, and the voice of modern day students.”
