Marjon welcomes its first postgraduates to distance learning

Released: 10.02.21

In January 2021, Plymouth Marjon University launched its first distance learning postgraduate programme. Students are studying the MA in Professional Education Practice degree from anywhere in the world.

The online course has both Marjon alumni and international students enrolled. Three of these students are from middle eastern country, Jordan.

As educators, qualified teachers and more, the Master’s cohort are studying how they can improve their teaching in an online world. As well as exploring more effective methods to promote student learning.

Distance Learning programme lead, Dr Lynne Wyness commented: “It’s been exciting to welcome our first cohort of distance learners from all over the UK, and as far afield as Jordan to our Marjon community.

“They’re embracing the flexibility of being able to study with us, wherever they live, and alongside their professional commitments."

Each student has a specialist tutor to support them through learning and assignments. Tutors are also available for video call, telephone or email conversations to provide advice on coursework.

It requires 12-15 hours per week to study through distance learning. With pre-recorded lectures and access to Marjon’s extensive digital library, students reap the benefits of being able to study anywhere.

As part of their degree, students will engage in the course material through Marjon’s designed learning app. This is accessible on mobile phones, tablets and computers.

The latest technology will allow students to communicate between themselves. Tutors will also provide detailed feedback on submitted coursework throughout their degrees.

Marjon is also receiving applications for its second distance learning course, MSc Management for a Sustainable Future. This postgraduate programme will focus students on ways to support companies, mangers and leaders in achieving their 2030 sustainability goals.

For Marjon alumni, these postgraduate programmes fall into Marjon’s 20% discount for returning students.
