Plymouth Marjon named University of the Year for Social Inclusion

Plymouth Marjon University has been named "University of the Year for Social Inclusion" in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2027.

The award recognises Marjon's success in delivering its mission to end social inequity. Founded on the belief that life-changing education should be accessible to everyone, the University's social purpose drives its work with partners, communities and employers, transforming lives through education, research, civic engagement and place-based impact.

The award demonstrates Marjon's sector-leading commitment to unlocking potential regardless of postcode, age or access by widening opportunities to participate in Higher Education through authentic support and local high-quality provision. 

The recognition reflects both the success of the University in supporting its students and graduates and of Marjon's contribution to enabling stronger, fairer communities.

Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Plymouth Marjon University Professor Claire Taylor said: “This is an accolade that recognises the strength of our academic vision, our commitment to excellence and our unwavering belief that opportunity and possibility should be available to all.

Professor Tanya Ovenden-Hope, Dean of Place and Social Purpose said: “This award recognises the reach of Marjon’s commitment to place and social purpose. Regionally, from Plymouth to Truro, and the many communities we serve through our partners nationally and internationally, we work alongside people to understand local challenges, widen opportunity and create meaningful, lasting change. By connecting inclusive education with purposeful research and civic action, Marjon helps individuals and communities realise their potential."

Marjon's students experience is inclusive from first enquiry to alumni, the university embedding into its practices that education should be accessible to all.
