Plymouth showcases the power of place-based leadership for Future Vision cohort

Last month, Plymouth Marjon University welcomed participants from the Future Vision leadership programme to Plymouth, providing an opportunity to explore how partnership working, innovation and civic leadership are helping to shape the city's future.

Delivered by the Leadership Centre, Future Vision brings together senior leaders from across local government, health, education, business and the voluntary sector.

The University welcomed cohort members to Plymouth for a series of discussions exploring leadership, place and the role of organisations in shaping stronger communities.

A highlight of the visit was a discussion on Plymouth's identity, ambitions and future opportunities, led by Professor Claire Taylor, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Plymouth Marjon University, Lindsey Hall, Chief Executive of Real Ideas, Tracey Lee, Chief Executive of Plymouth City Council, , and Cllr Tudor Evans OBE, Leader of Plymouth City Council.

The conversation explored the importance of collaboration across sectors and the role of leadership in delivering positive change for communities and places.

The visit demonstrated Plymouth's growing reputation as a city where organisations work together to tackle complex challenges. Participants were able to see first-hand how culture, community development, housing and social impact organisations are contributing to economic growth, wellbeing and regeneration.

Organisations involved included Real Ideas, Trevi, Nudge Community Builders and Plymouth Community Homes, each offering perspectives on the importance of place-based leadership and long-term partnership working.

For Plymouth, it was an opportunity to showcase the city's collaborative approach to addressing some of the most pressing issues facing communities today, from community-led regeneration and cultural innovation to housing, inclusion and civic leadership.
