A Captivating Winter Adventure Awaits with ‘The Snow Beast’ at Plymouth’s revitalised Quad Theatre- an imaginative festive show blending science, storytelling, puppetry and music for the whole family.

This Christmas, Barbican Theatre Plymouth invites families to embark on a magical winter journey with The Snow Beast — a heartwarming theatrical adventure that fuses science, storytelling, original music, and puppetry, perfect for audiences aged 6 and above.

Created by the acclaimed family theatre company Scratchworks, in collaboration with award-winning writer Jack Dean, The Snow Beast introduces audiences to the snowy town of Seldomberg. Here, bubbling live experiments and last-minute inventions fill the air as students prepare for their Final Exams at the Science Academy. But young scientist Faina’s project has unexpectedly burst into flames. In a bid to save her future, she ventures into the wintry wilderness — joined by her owl assistant, Maude — in search of the mythical Snow Beast. What follows is a journey through mountains, mysteries and marvellous scientific puzzles.

An interactive and inventive production that inspires young minds, The Snow Beast celebrates curiosity, creativity and courage. With Scratchworks’ signature style of energetic performance, handmade visuals and audience involvement, this show promises to delight children and adults alike.

This year’s Christmas production also celebrates the reawakening of the Quad Theatre at Plymouth Marjon University - newly revitalised through a partnership with Barbican Theatre. As one of the first major family shows in the venue, The Snow Beast marks a cultural milestone and a new chapter in Plymouth’s creative story.
