Dr Phil Brown

Role Summary

  • Senior Lecturer in Sport Development and Programme Area Leader.
  • Overall curriculum responsibility for the BA Hons Sport Development programme (including the specialist pathways in Sport Management and Coaching and School Sport). 
  • Responsible to the BA Football Development and Coaching Degree and our partnership with Plymouth Argyle Community Trust and Devon FA. I lead the Foundation Degree in Sport Development and Coaching (known as FdA Sport Studies from 2018-2019).
  • Academic Link Tutor for Sport Development and Coaching provision at Richard Huish College.  


Qualifications

  • Professional Doctorate in Education, University of Plymouth.
  • MSc (Hons) Distinction in Sports Management, Northumbria University.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Special Field: Professional Development), Plymouth Marjon University.
  • BA (Hons) Physical Recreation Programmes and Geography. Exeter University.

I currently teach on undergraduate sports programmes including

  • BA (Hons) Sports Development including (specialist pathways in Sport Management and Coaching and School Sport);
  • BA Football Development and Coaching; Foundation Degree in Sport Development and Coaching / Sport Studies;
  • BA Sports Coaching; BA Physical Education; BA Sport, Coaching and Physical Education.
  • I contribute to the post graduate MRes in Sport Development and Sport Management.

  • Free Swimming: Local evaluation team for the Local Exercise Action Pilot (LEAP) Plymouth Free Swimming initiative - a national pilot funded by the Department of Health, Sport England and the Countryside agency that aimed to increase levels of physical activity in vulnerable and hard to reach groups
