Role Summary

Millie Tippett is a Lecturer in Secondary Education at Plymouth Marjon University, specialising in Geography Initial Teacher Education. She joined Marjon following a career in secondary education, where she taught Geography and held middle leadership responsibilities in schools across Devon.

At Marjon, Millie teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate Initial Teacher Education programmes and contributes to subject pedagogy and professional studies sessions. Millie is also the ITAP and Digital Academic Leader, supporting the development and implementation of Intensive Training and Practice across Marjon’s teacher education programmes.

Alongside her university teaching, Millie is committed to strengthening partnerships between schools and Initial Teacher Education and to supporting the professional development of both trainee and practising teachers. Her work in Geography education particularly focuses on curriculum development and subject leadership.

Teaching

Millie is a Module Leader on the PGCE Secondary programme and teaches across a range of modules throughout the programme. She also contributes to undergraduate Education programmes and the Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. Her teaching includes subject pedagogy, professional studies, curriculum, behaviour, metacognition, adaptive teaching, SEND and research-informed classroom practice.

Research

Millie’s scholarly interests include metacognition, cognitive science, curriculum design, disciplinary Geography education and the translation of educational research into classroom practice. She is also interested in collaborative curriculum development and professional learning within Initial Teacher Education.
