No. 1 in England for Student Satisfaction (Complete University Guide 2023)

We want our students to love their time with us: to thrive, to be happy and to achieve everything they dreamed of.

This page explains how we do it. We focus not only on building academic skills and knowledge, but on building your confidence. We know your future success depends not just on what you know, but how you use it. Small class sizes mean we help students to develop skills such as leadership, teamwork and influencing as well as deep subject expertise.

We offer a campus designed to keep you in balance, with green spaces, a gym and pool on site and a thoughtful, student-centred support network.

You'll have your very own Personal Development Tutor to help you develop your strengths. You'll be encouraged to use all of the support you have available, from Study Skills and personal organisation workshops in the library, to drop-in sessions with our career advisors.

In your academic work, you'll be encouraged to get involved: to share your ideas and contribute to class. You'll find that learning here is hands-on, fun and rich with opportunity.

The personal touch

Marjon was founded in the 1830s in order to educate young boys out of poverty. The world has changed, but our values haven’t. Our mission is still to help people to be the best they can be.

Our Personal Development Tutors work with small groups of students to find their strengths, build their confidence and ensure they make the most of their university life. They help students to leave here confident in their strengths, understanding their leadership style, and knowing what they enjoy.

They help students to make good choices and to build a career that suits their passions and strengths, to live a fulfilled and happy life.

We get to know you

Small class sizes mean students feel safe to test, to learn and to grow.

In larger universities, students might find it hard to share their views and to be known by their lecturers. We know that’s not the best way to learn.

We believe in exciting debate and hands-on learning. We believe that when tutors know you well, they can help you more: that means taking time to understand how you learn, what interests you, and what your goals are.

Because we're small, we can enjoy getting out of the classroom to learn in your future work environments: in schools or by sports pitches, in the court room, in education camps, and in local businesses and organisations. We even have clinics for members of the public so that our health students can learn directly in a clinical environment.

Small class sizes means that we can know you, value you, and help you succeed.

We have a beautiful campus

Our campus is a calm space with a grassy quad, an orchard, a pond, and even deer. Our bees, bats and badgers are as much at home as our students.

If you live on campus, the lack of commute means more quality time for study, socialising, societies or sport. Accommodation on campus is popular for new students with sociable halls and quieter village houses available.

We're lucky to live here

Our location is spectacular – close to beaches, Dartmoor, and the city. From surfing before breakfast to watching the sunset over the moors, this is a fabulous place to live and study.

We believe in you

At Marjon, we are proud of our strong Values, which drive everything we do.

Our Values - humanity, ambition, curiosity and independence - mean that we believe in your potential, we care about your success and happiness, and we are always searching for a better way to do things.

89% of our students tell us that when they leave Marjon, they want to help people in their careers (Student Experience Survey 2021). We help students to define what drives them, so that they can follow a career which they find most fulfilling.
