Plymouth Marjon University continued to make its mark on the international outdoor education scene this spring, as a delegation of eight staff and alumni attended and presented at the European Outdoor Education (EOE) Conference in Rimini, Italy.
Hosted by the University of Bologna, the event welcomed researchers and practitioners from across Europe, offering a platform to explore current thinking and practice in outdoor learning.
This latest outing follows the University’s participation in the International Outdoor Education Research Conference in Tokyo, Japan, in March 2024, where six Marjon-affiliated delegates shared their work on the global stage.
The 2025 Marjon team presented original research grounded in their experiences and academic studies. Impressively, six of the eight delegates were graduates of Marjon’s BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education programme, demonstrating the strength and reach of the University’s teaching and research in this field.
Their work touched on timely and impactful themes, including environmentalism, coaching in outdoor contexts, and social justice, a key part of the Marjon 2030 Strategy. The quality of presentations drew praise from leading scholars in the discipline, many of whom commended Marjon's growing presence in international research conversations.
Georgios Katsogridakis, BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education course leader, said:
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our students and alumni contributing to international research conversations with such confidence and insight. Their work reflects the values of our programme - critical thinking, environmental stewardship, and a passion for learning through experience. This kind of global engagement is exactly what we aim to foster at Marjon.”
The Outdoor Adventure Education degree at Marjon offers a unique blend of practical experience and academic exploration. With a strong emphasis on experiential learning, environmental awareness, and personal development, the course continues to attract students with a passion for the outdoors and a commitment to learning through adventure.
As Marjon staff and alumni continue to share their insights and research on international platforms, the university's role in shaping the future of outdoor education is becoming increasingly recognised.
