Role Summary

Alex teaches on the Primary and Seconday PGCE programmes and the Primary BEd programme. She is the area lead for the SEND PGCE Primary pathway and teaches on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities modules throughout the department. Alex leads the primary PE provision on PGCE and Bed routes and leads the primary PE specialism.

Teaching

Alex taught in primary schools for 30 years in London, Birmingham and Devon. She has a wealth of experience as a Deputy Headteacher as well as teaching children who were excluded from secondary schools within Devon, with social, emotional and mental health needs.

Other Interests

Alex has interest in the recent developing strategies which positively impact on the mental health of young people. She is currently writing on the effectiveness of CBT-E for comorbidity of anorexia and major depression for young adult females as well as the impact that media has in its portrayal of mental illness. Alex is part of the working group for mental health across the university. Alex also teaches art therapy to young people with SEMH and complex SEND needs one day a week.

Alex sea swims, close to her home all through the year and she enjoys photography and oil painting.
